Repair, replacement, recalibration

Six jobs cover almost everything that happens to vehicle glass. Here is what each one involves and how long you should expect to be without the vehicle.

01 / Windshield repair

Stop the crack before it spreads

Resin injection pulls the air out of the break, fills it and cures under UV light. It restores the strength of the laminate and makes the damage much less visible, though a faint mark usually stays. Repairs work best on chips smaller than a quarter and cracks under six inches that are not in the driver line of sight.

02 / Windshield replacement

The right part, bonded the right way

We order off the VIN, so acoustic laminate, heated wiper park, rain sensor brackets and heads up display coatings all match what left the factory. The old urethane is cut out, the pinch weld is primed, and the new glass is set with high modulus urethane and tell you the safe drive away time.

03 / ADAS calibration

Cameras aimed where the manufacturer says

Forward facing cameras mount to the windshield. Once the glass moves, the camera has to be taught where straight ahead is. We run the static target procedure, the dynamic road procedure or both, depending on what the vehicle calls for, and we scan for codes before and after.

04 / Door glass

Tempered glass out of every corner

A broken side window leaves glass in the door cavity, the seat rails and the carpet. We pull the door panel, vacuum the shell, check the regulator and the run channels, then fit the new pane and test the window through its full travel. If the break came from a break in, we can usually get you back on the road the same day.

05 / Quarter glass

Small panes, patient work

Quarter glass is bonded and trimmed rather than dropped into a track, so the job is closer to a windshield than a door window. Old urethane has to come off cleanly and the new pane has to sit flush with the body line or you get wind noise. We take the time it needs.

06 / Back glass

Defroster grid reconnected, cavity cleaned

Rear glass is tempered, so it goes everywhere. We tape off the opening, remove the remaining glass and the old urethane, vacuum the cargo area and the seat backs, then bond the new glass and reconnect the defroster tabs and any antenna leads.

Common questions

Before you book

Repair or replace?

Cover the chip with a quarter. If the coin hides it and it is not in front of the driver, it is usually repairable. Cracks over six inches or that reach the edge of the glass are a replacement.

How soon can you come?

In stock windshields often go on the same or next day. Less common parts take one to three days to arrive.

Can you work in my garage?

Yes for glass, and it helps in wet weather. Static calibration needs more room, so we may pull the vehicle onto a level driveway for that part.

Do I have to use the shop my insurer names?

No. You pick who works on your vehicle. Tell the carrier you want Reign Auto Glass and we handle the rest.
